When Layne Staley Fought A Nazi During an Alice In Chains Concert
When Layne Staley Punched a “Nazi” Supporter on stage
A video recorded back in 1993 shows vocalist and grunge legend Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002, punching a Nazi skinhead during an Alice in Chains concert. The case occurred in Stockholm, Sweden, during the tour to promote the album "Dirt".
According to the website Far Out Magazine , Layne Staley punched the man after seeing him making a Nazi gesture in the audience of the show. The vocalist also saw the man trying to attack other fellow Alice In Chains supporters in the audience, amid the mosh pits formed there.
Before punching the man, Layne stopped the performance and called the man to jump on stage. He helps him to get on stage and, immediately after, greets him with a right hand punch.
The person responsible for the Nazi gesture was pushed off the stage and removed from the concert. The lead singer of Alice in Chains, in turn, explained in front of the microphone that he was a "Nazi guy".
After being expelled, the man reported to the police what had happened. The officers went after Layne Staley, but the show was over and the singer took a ferry to Finland, Alice in Chains' next stop.
The other members of the band had not yet left Stockholm and were located by the police, who seized the musicians' passports until Layne returned. However, the authorities investigated the case and found out what really happened - that way, not only were the members of Alice in Chains released, but also Staley received a formal compliment from the police.
