Smash Mouth At Sturgis Concert: “F*** That COVID S***!!”

A Smash Mouth concert in Sturgis, in the North American state of South Dakota, is causing controversy for several reasons. As the videos show, there is a concentration of bikers with no social distance and, most of them, without a mask, attending the Smash Mouth concert. In addition to these images, there’s a comment by Steve Harwell, Smash Mouth’s lead singer and frontman, during the performance, which is recorded in one of the tweets: "we are all here tonight. Fuck that Covid shit”.

The Sturgis biker festival, The Sturgis Buffalo Chip, runs over nine days and it ends on the 15th. The US press estimates that there have been a total of 250,000 people on the grounds throughout this weekend, which does not mean that this was the turnout at the Smash Mouth concert.

On the event's website, the organization ensures compliance with sanitary standards to avoid the expansion of the covid-19 pandemic, such as the request for social distancing from festival-goers, the use of masks, availability of disinfectant gel at various points in the enclosure, use of masks by the staff or constant cleaning of public spaces, including bathrooms.
