After a “Drunk” Smashed This Street Musician’s Guitar, Jack White Bought Him a $4,000 Replacement
Jack White bought an amazing gift to a musician who had his guitar destroyed earlier this week.
Jack White surprised a Scottish street busker by buying him a $4,700 custom Fender Stratocaster.
Matt Grant is a street busker and was playing on an Edinburgh street this week when a 45-year-old woman allegedly started insulting him, eventually breaking up his acoustic guitar, worth just over $390.
Matt shared the video on his Instagram page (watch below):
Matt then created a GoFundMe page, to be able to buy a new guitar, raising around $5,200.
Upon arriving at the guitar store where he was going to buy a new instrument, Matt Grant discovered that the property manager had tried to contact him, to tell him that Jack White wanted to offer him a guitar.
He wrote: “This morning I came into @guitarguitaredinburgh to pick up the new acoustic. Next thing I know I’m on the phone to @officialjackwhitelive ‘s manager who tells me Jack White has seen my go fund me page, feels bad for what happened and wants to buy me a new guitar. Flashforward one kid in a candy shop later testing as many guitars as possible and I settle on a custommade fenderstratocaster. Absolute once in a million lifetimes thing happened today and I cannot thank Jack enough for his absolute generosity. Apparently he saw what happened and hit up his manager just this morning, who then amazingly tracked me down to the guitar shop just in time for me to walk out with this absolute beauty. Thanks Jack. I’d love to thank you personally one day, you’re a legend.”
Matt Grant ended up choosing a custom Fender Stratocaster and has already thanked Jack White on Instagram (full post below).
As for the woman who insulted the street musician and destroyed his guitar, she was detained by the police.

Earlier this month Jack White was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and paid an amazing tribute to Eddie Van Halen…
Earlier this month, Jack White was the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" - he was asked to replace country singer Morgan Wallen. In addition to playing a medley of 'Don't Hurt Yourself' (his collaboration with Beyoncé), 'Ball and Biscuit' and 'Jesus Is Coming Soon', a gospel song about the Spanish flu of 1918, together with 'Lazaretto' , White also resorted to a guitar designed by Eddie Van Halen.
Jack wrote the following on his Instagram page:
“i thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue eddie van halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL. the guitar was designed by eddie (with a few customizations i had added). eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs. i wont even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight. thanks again
eddie for this guitar and rest in peace sir.”
